GOD OF WAR 
PERSO PROJECT

OVERVIEW

Being a huge fan of the God of War series, I've always wanted to do a project in the spirit of the games.

This project was inspired of the game God of War of 2018, the concept was to take the axe throw, add a new mechanic, and create a level centered around that mechanic.

WHAT DO I WANT TO PRACTICE

  • Analyze the game controller and try to recreate it

  • Create a level design in the spirit of a particular game

  • Advance in programming (blueprint)

GOD OF WAR

First, I analyzed the controller and the axe throw :

  • the force of the throw

  • the range of the axe

  • the behavior of the axe

  • the character's movements

For technical reasons, I did not include and therefore did not reproduce the attack system used by Kratos and Atreus.

About the new mechanic, I was inspired by Helios' head (God of War III), which was used to flash enemies and reveal secret passages.

Here, the axe can :

  • light up dark areas (use as a torch)

  • create safe zones through the “fog”

    • either by using it as a torch or by throwing it and activating it remotely

  • fog is a dangerous area that slows down and inflicts damage on players

I also had the idea that the axe could blind enemies, which would have allowed for new combos.

THE FOG

Fog is the second mechanic that allows you to use the new axe.

Steps of the video :

  • 1 - The player touches the fog and takes damage as long as they remain in contact with it

  • 2 - It can generate his life thanks to crystals

  • 3 - He can protect himself from the fog with the axe, but it consumes magic

  • 4 - The player can regain magic through totems

WHAT NEXT ?

  • Continue developping mechanics (like freezing things with the axe) to propose more of situations

  • Make the Level Design using mechanics

  • Perform a major balancing pass
